LIGHT ACADEMY MODEL SCHOOL (LAMS)

An RYHF Partnership and Compassion Project
Light Academy Model School (LAMS) was founded by Pastors Tailey and Agnes Garley in 2013 to feed, clothe, and provide 100% school fees for some of Liberia’s most vulnerable children. Liberia is identified as one of the 10 poorest nations in the world following 14 years of civil war and the 2014 Ebola crisis. Among the groups most impacted by extreme poverty are widows, single mothers, and orphans. These are the children of LAMS.
LAMS began in a small shack with dirt floors and a few committed volunteer teachers. Today, with the help of very generous donors, the Garleys’ BIG vision has literally come to life. Today over 900 children living in extreme poverty attend classes on a beautiful and well-equipped Light Academy campus. Here these boys and girls receive an education, a daily meal, and the greatest gift of all … hope.

But the needs are great and the work is far from finished. Goals include expansion of the science and computer labs, there are plans for more facility enhancements in the queue, and ongoing needs for textbooks, instructional materials, and a budget for food and transportation.
Our role at RYHF?
RYHF has made a commitment to see every LAMS teacher and administrator trained to minimum government standards and beyond. This year one of our Nursing students will complete her degree and join the Light Academy staff to oversee the health and well-being of these boys and girls who are so vulnerable to disease and malnutrition.
