Please join us on Big Day of Giving (TODAY!!!) as we set out to raise $10,000 to replenish Project REACH, our humanitarian arm of the foundation to care for our poorest students in times of emergency.
Here are 4 ways YOU can help!
We sincerely thank you for your support,
The RYHF Big Day of Giving Team
When “life” takes a turn for our students – a food, housing, transportation, or medical emergency – we are there for them. Project REACH is a special fund that carries our RYHF Family members through unanticipated times of challenge and sets them solidly back on track to pursue a life of health, stability, and contribution.
Our goal for Big Day of Giving 2022: $10,000 to replenish our REACH account to meet these needs in the months ahead. This year EVERY dollar raised up to $10,000 will be matched 1:1. Please give generously!
When Raise Your Hand Foundation welcomes a new student to our roster, we do everything we can to support their well-being and academic journey. These young men and women are not just scholarship recipients to us, they are RYHF Family. Most scholarship programs are unforgiving and drop students when grades fall below a stated GPA. When one of our students drops below a 3.0, we begin asking questions. And the answer is often found in a crisis situation that has negatively impacted the student – displacement, lack of transportation, hunger, or health issues.

In 2021 we ventured into a new and exciting undertaking. RYHF is building a NEW, state-of-the-art health center deep in the “bush” of Bomi County, Liberia. It will be the first of it’s kind health facility within walking distance for 5,000+ families.
The original (and current) A-Z Health Clinic was founded in Jawajeh in 2016 by RYHF graduate, Mr. Alexander Jackson, BSN/RN. Even with scarce few resources and limited staffing, Alexander and his team have become recognized for their region-wide impact in controlling COVID spread, reducing maternal and infant mortality, and for timely medical interventions with patients only accessible by motorbike.
Alexander showed what he is made of – vision, talent, diplomacy, and perseverance. RYHF decided to partner with him to grow the capacity and quality of health care in one of the poorest counties in Liberia. As one of our two RYHF Compassion Projects, we are all in.
Our NEW (and renamed) A-Z Health Center is fully completed on the outside, and fundraising and construction of the inside is underway. We are simultaneously dedicated to building the Center’s professional team, with 5 new nurses, a laboratory technician, and Physician Assistant on our scholarship roster. These young men and women have all signed agreements to volunteer at the clinic throughout their education on weekends and during breaks. They all commit to at least 2 years as working professionals upon completion of their degrees. And this is just the beginning…
To follow our progress and/or to donate, please check back periodically on our website or Raise Your Hand Foundation Facebook page.
I had the wonderful fortune to be in Liberia just before the world “shut down”, returning to California March 3rd with many (MANY) stories and photos to share. I set them aside when COVID-19 shut down schools and required us to shift our goals to humanitarian aid and public service. Once our students are fully settled back into classes, the “reflections” journey will begin! Watch for it.
And today it is nice to be able to share very good news:
In early October many of our students began returning to classes, after their colleges met the Liberian government COVID safety requirements. We’re excited that our talented students are back on the academic path to careers that bring hope and much needed service to their nation.
RYHF family members, Miatta and Shilley joyfully care for the children in their community. Johnetta’s smile says it all as she cares for patients at City Medical Lab Clinic (even her shirt is “smiling”)!

Pastors Tailey and Agnes Garley have a lot to smile about these days.
Their vision for a school that brings laughter, love, and learning to some of Liberia’s poorest children and orphans – Light Academy Model School, Liberia – has been a reality for a few years now.
Their vision for a NEW, beautifully constructed school building is getting closer to completion every day! Follow Light Academy on Facebook to see the wonderful things Tailey and Agnes, with YOUR help, have been able to accomplish!
On our part … RYHF trains Light Academy teachers and staff. And we smile about a special partnership that offers HOPE to so many.
Our nursing coalition’s RYHF COVID-19 Response Network public group is CONCERNED. The President of Liberia has extended the State of Emergency through July 21, 2020 due to the steady and dramatic increase in cases recorded in the last few weeks.
The Network, led by RYHF Family member Morris S. Fayiah, shares daily important COVID-19 information from researched, reliable sources. There is MUCH misinformation about Coronavirus on social media, including a belief that COVID-19 is either not real or not as big of a problem as the health officials say it is. The health professionals in the RYHF Family and throughout Liberia would tell you that Coronavirus – and the suffering when someone contracts it – is VERY real. We need to listen to them.
Liberia’s health system is not equipped to handle a significant rise in COVID-19 related hospitalizations. Let’s ALL do our parts to prevent this from being necessary. Join the RYHF COVID-19 Response Network today, share the posts with your friends, follow the guidelines. Let’s STOP COVID-19 in Liberia.
A added note of thanks and appreciation to our RYHF Partners at Light Academy Model School, Liberia and Harvest Christian Church who are bringing food to communities seriously suffering from hunger during this time of COVID-19 government lockdown.
We’ll get through this together. 6 Board Members, 13 years working together.
Thank you Shelley, Bruce, Seth, Ann, Jodie, and John – what a team!
